Current EU Legislation on R22 Refrigerant
From 1st January 2010 to 31st December 2014, only recycled or reclaimed R22 may be introduced to R22 systems for refill and maintenance activities. After 31st December 2009, no virgin material, whether pre-purchased or stockpiled, can be used for maintenance or repair activities.
From 1st January 2015, no R22 refrigerant can be introducted to a system – virgin, recycled, reclaimed or otherwise. Afer this date it effectively becomes impossible to carry out maintenance on a R22 system.
The most in-expensive solution to this problem is to change the R22 refrigerant in your system.
We have successfully completed trials on a number of systems for different organisations where we have changed R22 refrigerant to RS-44 refrigerant.
RS-44 “Drop In” Replacement for R22 Refrigerant
RS-44 refrigerant is a “Drop-in” replacement for R22 refrigerant providing an easy and at the same time a long term solution. Because there is no need to use expensive and hygroscopic synthetic lubricants, the risk of moisture ingress into a refrigeration system is completely avoided. RS-44 has significantly lower discharge temperatures and pressures than R22 which removes the problem of oil decomposition and also widens the applications for RS-44.
